Sounds good to me - if we paid for it once, why should we pay more?

The catch is that if the publisher can\'t charge people to look at the article
, they have to charge the authors to cover the cost of putting the article
where it can be read.

Grant funded researchers can get the publication cost from the grant-giver,
if the grant-giver is feeling generous.

Anybody can put their work on some server for free.
No magazines needed.

But the peer-reviewed magazines have credibility that self-published nutters lack.

Sites linking to it live from advertising, like google, sciencedaily, many others.
It sucks if such a link ends in a request for 30$ or so,
The time for magazines like ELsevier has long past, I no longer subscribe to any...

That figures. Jan gets misinformed for free.

As to peer review, in some cases it hinders progress, Einstein parroting comes to mind.
The peer check should already have happened at the University anyways.

Universities have internal politics. Peer reviews has to be done by people from independent institutions.

> Not so. The publications require that the authors sign over copyrights to them.

Gnatguy seems to be answering a question that hadn\'t got asked. I\'m convinced that he\'s in late stage dementia, so I\'m not surprised.

DOA

Any kind of lying propaganda needs to be killed off before it gets published anywhere where it might look as if had some kind of scientific authority.

This is nothing more than pure censorship.

Pure censorship would stop it getting published. The business model of the peer-reviewed publication industry is to only publish material that has been tested for credibility. There are more customers for more credible publications and people will pay more for information which is more likely to be trustworthy. It\'s a strictly commercial choice.

The Ph.D. isn\'t imaginary, and it kept me busy for ten years after I\'d left high school.
You could actually learn something, even some electronics perhaps, from simply the internet.

I was happy to exploit the internet when it finally showed. I\'d been using university libraries before that.

> No need for pee[r] reviews content by the likes of you!!!!!!!

I have done a bit of refereeing - not a lot. People working in industry aren\'t called on all that often.

> By your age, above 6 years old, most humming beans are capable of deciding for themselves what makes sense :)

So you should be able to manage it by now. Pity about that.

> There are websites that accept your paper for free.

So what? They\'d probably accept yours as well, and Skybuck\'s.

> Google is one of the greatest things we have now for self-education and access to all sorts of info.

But you do have to use it carefully. Ask the wrong question and you get taken to climate change denial propaganda web-sites.

> If it is really ground-shaking then industry will grab it and humanity will [hopefully] be served.

Industry will grab it if they think they can make money out of it. The service to humanity has to be one that humanity is likely to be willing to pay for.
Skybuck thinks that vaccination is attempted murder, so he wouldn\'t pay for that particular service.

Or is it just the ego trip you want?

The danger of people like you pee[r] reviewing is that we will remain in the kwantuum stones age..

Your anxieties on that score are groundless. I\'ve only refereed for the measurement instrument literature. I only know enough about quantum theory to know that you don\'t know anything at all.

Well, Bozo, that was so long ago that publications were hammered out of stone.

https://aip.scitation.org/doi/full/10.1063/1.3534845

was published in 2011, and was submitted electronically. In fact the comment was discussed here before I submitted it to the journal. The Libbrecht\'s - father and son - were known to at least one of our regular posters.

But, for us more modern authors that is DEFINITELY not the case:
https://cis.ieee.org/publications/ci-magazine/cim-page-charges#:~:text=Authors%20of%20papers%20accepted%20for,every%20page*%20over%20these%20limits.

\"Effective from January 1, 2022, papers submitted to this magazine will be imposed mandatory over-length page charge for pages in excess of 10 pages for a regular paper, 15 pages for a survey paper, and 6 pages for a letter. Authors of papers accepted for publication will be assessed a mandatory page charge of $200 (per printed page) for every page* over these limits.\"

One can understand that Gnatguy might not be able to curb his garrulity, but most of us have worked how top say what we need to say within the usual page limits. There are journals that do impose mandatory page charges, but Gnatguy seems to think that they all do and - as is typical of him - he\'s posted \"evidence\" that doesn\'t actually support his claim.

What was asked for was evidence that he had ever published anything in a peer-reviewed journal - which would be difficult for an anonymous troll - and he\'s evaded the question with his usual incompetence.

Sounds good to me - if we paid for it once, why should we pay more?
The catch is that if the publisher can\'t charge people to look at the article , they have to charge the authors to cover the cost of putting the article where it can be read.

Grant funded researchers can get the publication cost from the grant-giver, if the grant-giver is feeling generous.

All professional publications I have dealt with, like the IEEE, ALREADY charge the authors the cost of publishing their papers.

Not that Gnatguy can provide a list of these publications. As Tom Sims he might be able to, but what Google scholar came up with for that name didn\'t have much to do with aviation

https://scholar.google.com.au/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=%22a+w+sloman%22&oq=

lists a bunch of mine, and I\'ve never paid any page charges.

You DEFINITELY CAN\'T SPELL MINE!!!

As an anonymous troll, you haven\'t spelled out your name explicitly.. As an incompetent anonymous troll you did leak it once, but I really didn\'t want to remember it accurately, or at all.

Hey Fucker, you EXPLICITLY claimed that I have no authorized papers IN MY NAME - you better well SPELL MY NAME CORRECTLY.

A strange demand from an anonymous troll.

I\'m prepared to believe that you once got something published somewhere, probably by some kind of vanity press, but I\'d be surprised if anybody ever cited it.

You\'d have to tell us your real name and post a link to the publication before we\'d take you seriously, and telling us that your real name was Richard Feynman wouldn\'t actually work.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

I don\'t have to do SHIT, Bozo - YOU are the one that made this false claim, so it is up to YOU to back it up, but you CAN\'T!!!!!!!

You are the one that invented that false claim - I never made it. It\'s like your claim to be a licensed pilot - it\'s implausible, and you\'ve never even tried to prove it, so scepticism is appropriate, but this isn\'t the same as explicitly claiming that you weren\'t once a licensed pilot or a published author.

You\'d have to tell us a real name and provide a link to a paper published under that name before you could even get to first base, and we\'d then have the problem of working out whether the real name was your real name. Richard Feynman is dead, so his wouldn\'t work.

I\'ve done all of that - bar the pilot\'s license, which was too expensive for me when I might have been interested in getting one.

You won\'t, because you are an anonymous troll who relies on unsubstantiated and mostly false assertions.

Hey Bozo, thanks to you, I AM NOT anonymous and YOU KNOW IT (so that statement IS FALSE)! It is UP TO YOU to PROVE what you claim to be false ACTUALLY is false.

You are posting as \"Flyguy\", so you are an anonymous troll. You may have leaked your real name, but not enough information for us to link this with an actual person. even if we wanted to.

Your problem is that you have exposed enough of your obnoxious and stupid personality that I\'m not in the least interested in learning any more about you.

Your actions say the opposite, Bozo.
Name one.

You are obsessed with me - go review your OWN POSTS!

I get a certain amount of pleasure out pointing out exactly how stupid and obnoxious you are, and this does reduce the risk that other people will take you seriously, so it is probably worth doing, but this isn\'t taking you all that seriously. You are clearly a trivial flake.

Hey, YOU are the one who couldn\'t spell \"STUPD\" or YOUR OWN NAME.
I make typos from time to time, and while I check for them I don\'t catch all of them. You have exactly the same problem, somewhat compounded by total stupidity.

That IS a sign of stupidity, Bozo. And, NO, I can spell my own name, unlike you.

If you wan to be taken seriously you have to post it here in full with links to the register of current pilot licenses, and a link to the article you claim to have published in an identifiable peer-reviewed journal. You might also identify the tertiary institution that you claim gave you your engineering degree.

You are a fat and juicy target. Post fewer easily jeered at moronic assertions and I\'ll react less often.

Not a claim for which there is any experimental evidence, Intelligent people make typo\'s just like everybody else.

> And, NO, I can spell my own name, unlike you.

By which you mean that you haven\'t made a typo there yet. The fact that you don\'t sign your posts does give you an advantage - you seem to prefer to add to my signature line rather than risk posting your own.
